You have level-based spell slots - you can cast this many 1st level spells, this many second, etc. When you get raised from death at the town, you start off at 1hp - none of this fully-healed nonsense. It hadn't quite found its identity as "Final Fantasy" yet (the FF tropes weren't tropes, yet - no Cid!), so it borrows heavily from AD&D and other pen-and-paper games. I'm a fan; shit blew me away when it came out for NES. |
